SUPARATOR® Applications

APPLICATION: TRAMP OIL RECOVERY in METAL WORKING FLUIDS

LOCATION: FORTUNE 500 SMALL ENGINE MANUFACTURER

GOALS: Reduction in the Volume of Aqueous Coolant Usage Recovery and Re-use of Tramp Oil

SCENARIO: Due to significant coolant and hydraulic oil costs incurred in volume production operations of this FORTUNE 500 firm, corporate directives to plant management and chemicals' suppliers targeted reduced coolant usage as part of overall cost reduction programs.

PROBLEM: Factory management had to overcome significant tramp oil contamination of the company's 30,000 gallon coolant reservoir and the rapid coolant degradation associated with such heavy usage.

SOLUTION: Utilizing a Suparator® to continuously separate tramp oil and coolant returning to the central coolant reservoir, Mobil Oil and Castrol participated in a 90-day trial that closely monitored tramp oil loading and resultant degradation, during which tramp splitting coolant formulations were used with great success.

No coalescing media or filters were required to complete the separation, and the system was able to handle 'spike' and large tramp releases due to line blow-outs.
