FOR VOLATILE FUELS AND SOLVENTS
TO SUPPRESS VAPOR AND REDUCES RISK FROM SPILLSA SAFETY PRODUCT FOR DANGEROUS, VOLATILE PETROLEUM SPILLS
GUIDELINES:
for spills of volatile hydrocarbons such as gasoline.
A. The Primary response objective at a hazardous materials incident or emergency is the elimination or reduction of direct lossses. This is accomplished by:
1) Use a safe scene approach:
i) Use caution; approach the incident uphill and up wind.
ii) Stay clear of all spills , vapors, fumes and smoke.
iii) Resist the urge to rush in.
2) Give a first-in report and assume command.
3) Perform Size-Up
i) Identify the nature and serverity of the immediate problem.
ii) Identify the product: use identification numbers, placards, labels, shipping papers,MSDS sheets, etc.
4) Secure the scene:
i) Assure the safety of the people and the environment
ii) Isolate the area and deny entry to all people.
iii) If appropriate, secure the scene with barriewr tape.
iv) Evacuate the area according to recommendations in the DOT guidebook.
V) Remove victims if possible.
vi) Perform emergency decontamination if required.
vii) Protect in place.
viii) Provide appropriate EMS care.
5) Safely mitigate the spill if:
i) Product is a known hydrocarbon volatile fuel or solvent.
ii) You have the necessary training, protection equipment and resources.
(1) Dispense TAC-1 or TAC-2 on the spill and adsorb liquid.
(2) Use TAC-1 or TAC-2to dam the flow and rubber mat on drain to prevent flow into drains or sewers.
(3) If liquid has entered the drain or sewer apply TAC-1 or TAC-2 where access is available to suppress vapors.
(4) After completely adsorbing the liquid apply afine spray of water on the surface of the adsorbent mass. ( if moist surface is broken the liquid may ignite but will burn without vigor.)
(5) If the liquid ignites after adsorbed use a fine spray of water to extinguish TAC-1 fire or a fine spray of water or more TAC-2 on a TAC-2 fire.
(6) Remove adsorbent mass in appropriate containers.
(7) Dispose the TAC-1 mass by incineration and TAC-2 mass in appropriate land fill (liquid will not leech out of the TAC-2 mass) .
TAC-1 is supplied in 5 gallon plastic pails (14 lbs.), 25 lbs. Multi-wall bags and 30 gallon fiber drums (75 lbs.) . Both solid containers can be used for removal of recovered spill residue. Fiber drums are DOT approved for transport to EPA approved incinerators.
TAC-2 is supplied in 5 gallon plastic pails (27 lbs.) and 12 gallon fiber drums (60 lbs.) . Both containers can be used for removal of recovered spill residue.
if you have questions or comments.
